Best DIY Coffee Drinks For College Students

If you're anything like me when I was in college... You drink A LOT of coffee. Maybe even a slightly unreasonable amount. But in college, you have to get the work done on time, no matter what. Here's my top 3 drinks to get you through those late night cram sessions and early classes.

best coffee drinks to get you through an all nighter

1. "Dorm-Made" Cold Brew

Having cold brew on hand during college is a must. Cause' let's face it; sometimes you're going to wake up late and you're not going to have time to run to the nearest Kidd Coffee or brew a hot cup of joe in your dorm. If you prep enough cold brew; it can last you all week. Plus; it's cost effective! After you've made it; it's as simple as throwing it in a cup with a few ice cubes.

You’ll need:
- Coarse Ground Coffee Beans
- Filtered Water
- 1qrt Mason Jar
First heat your water to 120° F. You can measure this with a candy thermometer. Put half a cup of coarse ground coffee grounds in your mason jar and pour 2-2½ cups of water over coffee grounds. Let sit for two minutes, stir and put in the fridge for 12 hours.
Filter out coffee grounds by pouring through a coffee filter, clean t-shirt, or cheese cloth. If you choose the t-shirt, make sure it’s one you don’t mind being permanently coffee stained. I prefer organic Coffee Beans for cold brew, and would recommend coarse ground Puruvian Organic. Stores for up to 2 weeks.
If you already love black coffee; then this alone will be the perfect "pick me up". But I know how drinking the same flavor every morning can get boring. So, here's my college budget hack for flavored coffee. Find some time between class and studying to take a quick trip to a Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Home Goods, and look in the clearance section for coffee flavorings. I almost always find some there! Since they're so cheap; (normally only about $2 per 16oz bottle) you can afford to get a few! It still keeps your coffee routine quick but not boring!

2. PB Mocha Coffee Smoothie

Like I said above, sometimes you're rushing around campus. It's important to eat breakfast to provide your brain with energy to get through the day... But it's also a priority to get your caffeine in so your brain actually wakes up. Well, take this as a breakfast hack, and combine the two! There are so many flavor combinations you could use; but this one is definitely my favorite. It also has a good amount of protein, fiber, carbohydrates and healthy fats to fuel your morning!

In a blender:
- One Frozen Banana
- 1/2 Cup Of Greek Yogurt
- 2 tbsp Of PB / 1 Scoop Of PB Fit
- 1 Scoop Of Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1 Tbsp Of Chocolate Chips
- 1/4 Cup Of Very Finely Ground Coffee
- 2 Ice Cubes
- Almond Milk

The only thing left to do now is blend and enjoy! I will leave you with this caution though... MAKE SURE your coffee is very finely ground so that it mixes well with the rest of the ingredients. No one likes a grainy smoothie!

3. MCT Oil Iced Coffee
Bulletproof coffee was a phenomenon a few years ago. It's the perfect combination of a caffeine kick and healthy fats so you brain can get right to work. But it can be time consuming to make hot coffee, maybe even melt butter, and blend it. Here's my time saving hack for some bulletproof brain fuel in a rush.
You'll Need:
- 2 Cups Cold Brew
- 2 tbsp MCT Oil
- Shaker Bottle
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (or to taste)
- Stevia (to taste)
This may sound like a lot of ingredients but it's so quick so assemble. All you have to do is throw the ingredients into a shaker bottle with some ice and shake it on the way to class! I love this recipe because it has a great flavor but no sugar. I don't know about you; but I always have brain fog after eating sugar. So, I try not to start my day off with sugary drinks when I know I'll have to be focusing for hours.
