how to make cold brew coffee from the kidd coffee co in cincinnati ohio

Cold Brew

This basic drink can quench your coffee cravings during the summer heat.

You’ll need

  • Coarse Ground Coffee Beans
  • Filtered Water
  • 1qrt Mason Jar

First heat your water to 120° F. You can measure this with a candy thermometer. Put half a cup of coarse ground coffee grounds in your mason jar and pour 2-2½ cups of water over coffee grounds. Let sit for two minutes, stir and put in the fridge for 12 hours.

Filter out coffee grounds by pouring through a coffee filter, clean t-shirt, or cheese cloth. If you choose the t-shirt, make sure it’s one you don’t mind being permanently coffee stained. I prefer organic Coffee Beans for cold brew, and would recommend coarse ground Puruvian Organic. Stores for up to 2 weeks.

Cold brewed can be consumed straight, iced, flavoured with your favourite syrups, blended, or any other way you enjoy it. My personal favorite way to drink cold brew is with 1 pump cherry syrup, 2 pumps dark chocolate, and a splash of half & half.

How to make affogato

Affogato

No summer drink list is complete without Ice Cream! There are several ways to make the classic Affogato, but this one is my favorite. You can mix and match any flavour of coffee or ice cream you want for this. My favorite is Highlander Grogg over vanilla. Strawberry Fields is a Kidd Coffee Barista favorite for Affogato.

You’ll need:

  • Ice Cream
  • Super Fine Ground Coffee
  • Espresso machine

First prep your espresso machine to brew 2 shots of espresso. Scoop about ⅓ of a cup of ice cream into your cup, and brew your espresso right on top of your ice cream, and your Affogato is ready to go!

For Iced: fill a glass with ice cubes, add 2 pumps of lavender syrup, coffee, milk, drizzle in your desired amount of honey, and sprinkle with cardamom.

For blended: Put equal parts ice and coffee in a blender, add 2 pumps of lavender syrup, your desired amount of honey, and milk, blend until smooth. Pour into your favourite cup and top with whip cream and ground cardamom.

Blend until smooth (I blended it right in my cup with my immersion blender.) Top with Whip cream and extra cocoa powder, and enjoy!
